Our special Diwali tour offers a stylish introduction to India and an engaging experience of the exuberant festival of light.

Our flexible small group journeys have more of the feel of private touring, friendly, relaxed and fun. You share transport and some experiences with a small number of other guests, but you also have time to explore on your own and vary activities if you choose.

You'll visit the World Heritage monuments of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur and watch the Taj Mahal revealed in dawn light. In Jaipur you'll see amazing Diwali illuminations and fireworks and enjoy a family celebration. The itinerary ends with a stay in our beautiful old painted mansion in Shekhawati where you can relax, enjoy great food and discover some of the hidden highlights of rural Rajasthan.

DAY 1: Saturday DELHI We meet your flight and transfer you to the luxury of Delhi's landmark Imperial hotel for an overnight stay. View the priceless art collection and see some of the earliest engravings and paintings of places you will visit on your journey.

DAY 2: Sunday  DELHI  See the sights on a vibrant day tour taking in the markets, bazaars and street food culture of Old Delhi and the stately architecture and grand spaces of Lutyen's New Delhi, Mughal monuments and Gandhi Smriti; you also travel through time by using all modes of transport from cycle rickshaws to Delhi's modern metro!

DAY 3: Monday  AGRA  After breakfast drive to Agra to check in at the Trident hotel. Later, take a guided sightseeing tour of Agra Fort and the incomparable monument of love, the Taj Mahal.

DAY 4: Tuesday  JAIPUR  Your day begins with magical sunrise views of the Taj Mahal from fields across the river. The drive to Jaipur takes you first to Fatehpur Sikri; the atmospheric palaces, harems and court buildings were conceived as the greatest capital of Mughal India, but had to be abandoned after being occupied for only 14 years. Later we visit Abhaneri's great geometric stepwell, the deepest in India, before reaching Jaipur, where you will stay at the All Seasons Homestay.

DAY 5: Wednesday  JAIPUR  After breakfast in the courtyard with trees, flowers and native birds, you'll be met by our expert guide, a walking encyclopedia who will share his knowledge of Jaipur's history and anecdotes of city life on a daylong sightseeing trip. An elephant ride takes you up to the majestic UNESCO hill fort of Amber for views over the city and sights including the elaborate mirror palace and Ganesh Pole.

DAY 6: Thursday  JAIPUR  The day is free to relax, shop or see the sights. You may take an excursion to Galta, sited around a natural spring, the region's only temple dedicated to the Sun God and an important pilgrimage centre. In the evening you may view Jaipur's spectacular Diwali illuminations at dusk, participate in Diwali celebrations, and enjoy views of spectacular firework displays. 

DAY 7: Friday MUKUNDGARH  After the exuberance of Jaipur's festival of light, a short drive takes you into a different world in the friendly and traditional Shekhawati town of Mukundgarh for a relaxing stay at Mukund Haveli, our restored, painted merchant mansion. 

DAY 8: Saturday  MUKUNDGARH  After breakfast take an excursion to nearby Mandawa, Fatehpur or Nawalgarh to see some of the best of the frescoed havelis for which the Shekhawati region is famous. In the evening enjoy a candlelit dinner at the haveli.

DAY 9: Sunday  MUKUNDGARH  Relax in the garden, chill out with a book, try the food of the region, or shop for local souvenirs in the village bazaars, where you can see rangrez dyers at work or visit one of the last local scissor-makers. Craft skills have been practiced by their families for generations. 

DAY 10: Monday  DELHI  After breakfast, drive to Delhi for your flight home or depart for your next destination.
